Chairman Moran Applauds VA for Extending Support for Post-9/11 Family Caregivers
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (Kan.) – chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs – released the following statement today after the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced they are extending the pause on the dismissal of “legacy participants” from VA’s Family Caregiver program for an additional three years, from September 30, 2025, to September 30, 2028:
“VA has made the right decision to extend the pause on the dismissal of legacy participants from VA’s family caregiver program for three more years. By extending this pause, post-9/11 veterans and caregivers who have been enrolled in VA’s Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers since before it was expanded to pre-9/11 veterans in 2020 can rest assured that they will continue to be supported as VA, Congress and the caregiver community keep working to make certain this program is successful for all generations of veterans and their caregivers. I appreciate Secretary Collins’ attention on this important issue, and I look forward to continuing to work with him on behalf of veterans and caregivers in Kansas and everywhere.”
Legacy participants in VA’s family caregiver program are those who were enrolled in the program before September 30, 2020, when it was initially expanded to include the pre-9/11 population under the MISSION Act. VA initially paused the dismissal of legacy participants from the program in 2022.
