Sen. Moran Leads Committee Hearing on Nominees for VA Under Secretary for Health & DOL Assistant Secretary for Veterans’ Employment and Training
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) – chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs – today led the committee in considering the nomination of John Bartrum to be Under Secretary for Health at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Jeremiah Workman to be Assistant Secretary for Veterans’ Employment & Training at the Department of Labor (DOL).
“Making certain veterans can access timely and high-quality health care, as well as meaningful and gainful employment, when they separate from military service are two of the highest priorities of this committee and certainly something that is important to our grateful nation,” said Sen. Moran. “In many ways, VA’s Under Secretary for Health and DOL’s Assistant Secretary for Veterans’ Employment and Training bear the bulk of the responsibilities for meeting these missions.”
“While progress has been made to improve access to health care and high-paying jobs, far too many veterans in Kansas and across the country continue to struggle to take full advantage of their earned benefits from VA and DOL,” continued Sen. Moran. “Mr. Bartrum, a Major General in the Air Force Reserve, and Mr. Workman, a decorated Marine veteran, know these struggles well, and they are both eager to make it easier for their fellow veterans to thrive in their civilian lives.”
