Chairman Moran Applauds Election of Kansas Legionnaire Dan Wiley as National Commander of The American Legion
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (Kan.) – chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs – today released the following statement congratulating Legionnaire Dan Wiley of Leavenworth, Kansas, on his election to be the 2025-2026 National Commander of The American Legion:
“Congratulations to Commander Dan Wiley on being elected by his fellow Legionnaires to serve as the new National Commander of The American Legion. After serving our country in the U.S. Air Force, Dan came home to Kansas to continue to serve his brothers and sisters in arms as a part of The American Legion and his community as a lawyer and, later, a district court judge. More than 30 years since leaving the military, Mr. Wiley has demonstrated that he is a dedicated leader who is well-prepared to support the needs of our nation’s veterans and their families as National Commander. I look forward to working with him as he continues to serve veterans and military families in this new capacity.”
National Commander Wiley has held 24 different positions within The American Legion ranging from Post Level to National Level. He served twice as Chairman of the Leavenworth County Veterans Day Parade Committee and Master of Ceremonies at the Leavenworth National Cemetery Memorial Day Observance for over 15 years. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he attended the University of Kansas School of Law and, in 2008, was appointed by Governor Kathleen Sebelius as a Kansas State District Court Judge, where he helped establish the Leavenworth County Veterans Treatment Court.
He and his wife, Sonia, have two children, Austin and Christy, who are members of the Legion family.
