An internship with the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn first-hand how a Senate Committee works to pass legislation, conducts oversight on federal agencies and programs, and implements policy. You can expect to work on projects that include supporting staff members with background research on their issue areas, collecting data on wait times at VA clinics, and managing all correspondence that comes through the office.
The program is intended to provide participants with the tools, skills, and experience that they can readily apply to future challenges and professional pursuits. We expect a great deal from our interns. Candidates will have a diverse, challenging experience and make a genuine contribution to veterans and the legislation that serves them.
We welcome all applicants who have demonstrated academic excellence and have displayed a commitment to public service. While preference will be given to veterans and others with demonstrated knowledge of veteran and military issues, students from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
This program is designed to enhance a course of study for an undergraduate or graduate student. The level of work is appropriate for students who have completed their first year at a college or university. On the whole, the goal is to offer as rewarding an experience as possible, while fulfilling the existing needs of the office.
